Along the route, you’ll find plenty of campgrounds – many right by the river – with Indi Bridge and Kurrajong and Burrowye Reserves among our favourites. For those after powered caravan sites and campgrounds with amenities, there are excellent caravan parks in Corryong, Walwa, Khancoban, Tintaldra, Lake Hume and Colac Colac. Many local pubs offer rooms and are happy to provide sites and amenities for caravans too.

Camping and caravanning along the Great River Road

For those who love the outdoors, the Great River Road offers some of the best riverside camping in Australia, with stunning locations right by the Murray River. From peaceful bushland retreats to scenic camping spots (BYO amenities), there’s something for every type of camper. Wake up to the sounds of nature and the gentle flow of the river, making it the perfect destination for families, anglers, and adventurers alike.

The route is dotted with camping spots that cater to different needs. Whether you’re after well-equipped caravan parks or prefer something a bit more rustic, there’s no shortage of options. For those travelling in caravans, you’ll find well-maintained parks with powered sites, bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry facilities. Caravan parks in Walwa, Corryong, Tintaldra, Colac Colac, Khancoban, and Lake Hume are great choices, all offering easy access to the region’s key attractions.

If you’re happy to immerse yourself in nature and be entirely self-sufficient, there are plenty of gorgeous campgrounds – some with composting toilets. This stretch of the Murray is ideal for people who love bushwalking, fishing, kayaking, and nature watching. Campsites like Clarke’s Lagoon, Gadds Bend, Indi Bridge, and Kurrajong and Burrowye Reserves are particularly pretty, giving you direct access to the river and close proximity to surrounding trails.

Whether you’re staying for a weekend or a longer getaway, the region’s scenic camping spots promise unforgettable moments in the heart of the outdoors. And as long as there’s no fire ban, you really can’t beat a billy over an open fire.
