The Great River Road is great for drivers, but it’s great for walkers too

Whether you’re a casual walker or an experienced hiker, the Great River Road offers hundreds of kilometres of wonderful trails, tracks and bushwalks – many through pristine National and State Parks. From easy-access lookout walks and town strolls, to short and sharp hikes to mountain summits, to long and fulfilling treks into Man from Snowy River country – take a breath and take it all in your stride!

The Great River Road region is a walker’s paradise, offering a range of hikes and trails that cater to all fitness levels. From short township strolls to challenging summit hikes, the area is packed with opportunities to explore.

Start with gentle options like the Lake Hume Dam Wall Walk or the Bellbridge Foreshore Walk, which offer stunning views of Lake Hume and the surrounding countryside. For those seeking something more adventurous, the Granya Falls Walk or the Mt Granya Summit – Lyrebird Loop Nature Trail are must-dos, rewarding hikers with spectacular forest scenery and waterfalls.

The Burrowa-Pine Mountain National Park is a highlight for committed hikers, with trails like the Pine Mountain Walking Track and the Mount Burrowa and The Pimple Hike offering challenging terrain and breathtaking views. For a more leisurely experience, the Rocky Knob Walk or the Lookouts Walking Track provide equally impressive vistas without the need for strenuous effort.
