1875 - 2025
The township of Corryong was officially proclaimed on 19 July 1875, nearly forty years after the first Europeans ventured into the region to claim grazing leases granted by the Colonial Government of the time.
In the 1860s, following the introduction of land ownership laws by the Victorian Colonial Government after the 1850s gold rush, a wave of new families began selecting land in the area as their new home.
As the agricultural, timber milling, and mining industries developed, small communities began to form throughout the Upper Murray.
Awarded town staus, Corryong continued to grow and remains the premier service centre of the Upper Murray to this day.
